Behavioural/Data Science Intern

About the role

Our Behavioural Innovation and Research team is seeking exceptional individuals to join us as paid interns this summer, with the possibility of a full-time role if we’re a good fit. The ideal candidate will be interested in applied behavioural science, with expertise in data science, analysis, modelling, and statistical skills.  

Responsibilities

  • You’ll work primarily with other members of the Behavioural Innovation and Research team, especially at the start of the internship as you learn about our methodology and approach
  • As you assimilate to the Oxford Risk way of doing things, you will interact to an increasing degree with other teams within the company (Sales, Product, etc) and be given greater responsibility to handle tasks independently
  • You will help us develop behavioural tools to guide people towards better financial decisions, which could include:
    • Data analysis, both behavioural and financial
    • Interpretation, documentation, and presentation of findings and results
    • Prototype and product design and development
    • Interaction with clients/stakeholders

What we're looking for

Required skills and experience  

  • You will likely have, or be in the process of completing, a post-graduate degree with strong quantitative and data analysis components. This could be in behavioural science, data science, finance/economics, or any related subject.
  • Strong quantitative, modelling, analysis, and statistical skills; good knowledge of statistical and programming packages (particularly Python)

Required attributes

  • Curiosity and interest in applied behavioural/data/decision science
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences
  • Highly organised, thorough, details-oriented, and able to document and track data with clarity
  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to operate independently

Good-to-have skills and experience  

  • Familiarity with one or more of:
    • Behavioural finance/economics and/or decision science
    • Finance: theory, risk, financial advice, wealth management, investment suitability, sustainable finance/investing, or financial wellbeing
    • Psychometrics, survey design, and data visualisation
  • Experience with consulting, and client and project management
  • Experience in taking analysis and insight into in designing practical tools and products to assist decision making (e.g. use of Figma type tools)
  • Expertise in machine learning and data engineering

We do not expect applicants to have equally strong expertise in all the areas listed. We are seeking individuals interested in using a broad range of skills to deliver practical solutions.
